Site assets are files kept in the storefront asset namespace. Use them for files intended to be selected by themes or storefront settings. Uploading an asset does not attach it to a logo, banner, or theme section automatically; select it in the relevant setting afterward.
How Site assets differ from Media
Media-library files use the general upload namespace. Site assets use a separate storefront namespace and public asset URL. The two groups have separate permissions and library views, but share the store storage quota.
Upload and select an asset
Open Site assets or a storefront setting that includes an asset picker.
Upload a supported file or choose an existing Site asset.
Select the asset in the relevant storefront or theme setting and save that setting.
Site assets use the current upload formats, file-size limits, batch limit, validation, and storage quota advertised by your store. A picker can narrow the available choices to the media types accepted by a particular setting.
Details and AI generation
You can preview a Site asset and change its display filename or alt text. Where allowed, AI image generation can save a new image directly to Site assets. The other image-editing operations described as unavailable in the Media library are also unavailable here.
Deletion and permissions
Deleting a referenced asset may require confirmation, while blocked references must be removed at their source first. Site assets use their own read and write permissions, separate from Files permissions. Asset uploads, metadata changes, and deletions are recorded with the acting user or app.
