About categories

How categories organize products, where they appear, and how to manage them.

A category is a structured product group, for example Clothing, Shoes, or Accessories. Categories form a tree: a category can be at the top level or nested under another category. Use that hierarchy to organize storefront navigation, filtering, category pages, and product browsing.

Where categories appear

A product can belong to categories. Category assignments appear on product responses and product exports as category IDs plus category slugs. In a product CSV, categories are referenced by slug, not by ID.

Creating and managing categories

Create categories from Products > Categories, choose a parent category when a category should be nested, or manage them with a category CSV import. The list and tree views show the same categories: use the tree to expand a branch and the list to search, sort, filter, or run bulk actions.

Deleting categories

Deleting a category is blocked while it has child categories or products assigned. Move or remove those first. If collection rules, discounts, or menus reference the category, Tringify shows the affected records and asks for confirmation before removing those references and deleting the category.
