Your base currency is chosen when the store is created. It is the source currency for catalog prices and cannot be disabled or removed.
Additional currencies are available when your plan includes multi-currency and multi-currency is enabled for the store. Enabling a currency makes it available to products and markets; customers see it only after it is assigned to their country through a market.
