How to manage tax zones

Create zones, set a default, configure the business exemption, and delete safely.

On the web
  1. In your store admin, go to Markets and open the market.
  2. Open the Tax tab and select the Zones section.
  3. Select New tax zone, name it, and pick the countries or regions it covers — regions another zone already claims are shown as taken.
  4. Save. Then open the zone to add its rates.
Creating a default zone

Turn on the default switch instead of picking regions — the default zone covers every address the other zones don't, so it takes no country list of its own. A market keeps at most one default zone: making a zone the default un-defaults the previous one.

Setting up the business exemption

In the zone form, turn on the business tax exemption and choose which tax ID the zone accepts — an EU VAT number, an Indian GSTIN, a custom ID with your own label, and so on. Then choose the effect: exempt removes the tax, while invoice only keeps the tax and marks the order for a business invoice. You can also set the text shown at checkout next to the tax ID field. The checkout entry is collected for verification; it does not approve its own exemption.

Deleting a zone

Deleting a zone removes its rates with it. Addresses the zone covered are then matched like any other: they fall to the default zone if the market has one, and are sold without tax if it doesn't. The default zone itself can't be deleted while it is the default — make another zone the default first, or edit the zone instead.

On mobile

In the Tringify app, open Markets, choose the market, and then go to Tax > Zones. You can create, edit, export, and delete tax zones.
