Repeat-purchase retention

See when first-time buyers return and distinguish completed months from unfinished periods.

In Store Admin or the mobile app, open Analytics > Customers. Under Repeat-purchase retention, choose 3, 6 or 12 months to follow, then select a First purchase month.

The date filter selects buyers whose first qualifying purchase falls inside the selected dates. Custom ranges can cover up to 366 calendar days. Selecting a sales channel measures both the first purchase and later purchases on that channel.

Purchases with the same checkout email are grouped together, ignoring capital letters and surrounding spaces. Purchases without an email, such as phone checkouts, are grouped by the shopper's customer account. Different email addresses count separately; purchases with neither are excluded. This report does not turn those purchase histories into a saved customer group.

Paid orders and cash-on-delivery orders count. Test and cancelled orders are excluded. A refunded purchase still counts as a purchase. Dates use when the order was placed; a later payment or refund does not move it to another month. Later cancellations can change the results when you reopen the report.

Months follow your store timezone. Month 1 is the calendar month after the first purchase month: for a first purchase on 29 March, Month 1 covers April. A buyer counts once in each month, even if they place several orders.

Each completed month shows the percentage and number of the original buyers who purchased again during that month. Zero means the month finished and nobody returned. Month not complete means that month has not finished yet; it is not a zero or a final result.

Counts and percentages follow your display preferences in Settings > General. Month names follow your account language. Open How retention is measured on the report to review these definitions.
