A synonym group lets storefront search recognize equivalent words or phrases. For example, group sneakers with trainers so a shopper using either term can find matching products. Other words in the search and the storefront's visibility and filter choices still apply.
Create a group in Store Admin
Open your Online Store channel, choose Search, then Search Synonyms.
Select Add group and choose an enabled store language.
Enter a term and press Enter or comma to add it. Repeat for each term, or paste a comma-separated list. Check that the terms appear as chips before saving.
Add 2–25 distinct terms, with no more than 64 characters in each term, then select Save.
Leading and trailing spaces are removed, and repeated spaces become one. Letter case does not make a term different: sneakers and Sneakers cannot be separate terms in the same group. Within one language, a term can belong to only one group. If it is already in another group, edit that group or remove the term there before adding it here.
Use the mobile app
Open Search Synonyms from the Online Store tools and select Add group. Choose a language and enter the terms on separate lines or separate them with commas, then create the group. Use the pencil to edit a group or the trash icon to delete it.
Find, edit, or delete a group
Search the list by a term or language code. In Store Admin, open the group's actions menu and choose Edit to change its language or terms. Keep at least two terms and save the complete group you want to use. Choose Delete and confirm to remove it. To bring a deleted group back, create it again.
Search view access is needed to open this page; Search edit access is needed to change groups. Managing synonyms does not require access to language settings. You can choose any language enabled on your store.
Languages and storefront results
Each group belongs to one enabled store language and is shared by storefront searches for that store and language. Create separate groups for other languages. Removing a language from the store also deletes its synonym groups; adding the language again does not restore them.
After saving, run a new storefront search in the group's language and try each term. Include any extra words or filters your shoppers use. You do not need to rebuild the search index just because a synonym group changed.
