Exchange rates and rounding

Choose automatic or manual exchange rates and how converted prices are rounded.

Automatic exchange rates

With Use automatic exchange rates turned on, Tringify updates every rate daily from market rates. You add a currency by switching it on in the list. You can change its rounding but not its rate.

If a current market rate is not available, the storefront cannot price in that currency until the rates update. Automatic exchange rates can be turned on only when the store has no additional currencies.

Manual exchange rates

A manual exchange rate is how much of the currency one unit of your base currency buys. For example, with an Indian rupee base currency, a US dollar rate of 0.012 means ₹1 = $0.012. When you add a currency, the latest market rate is filled in as a suggestion that you can change. Rates must be positive, and the form shows the largest rate and the number of decimal places allowed.

Add Currencies adds several currencies at once at their current market rates. Edit a rate afterwards if you want a different one.

Switching from automatic to manual rates copies the current market rate into every additional currency so you can edit it. If a current rate is not available, the switch stops and nothing changes; try again later.

Rounding

Rounding applies only to prices converted from your base currency. A price you enter for a currency is used exactly as entered. The rounded amount is what the customer sees and pays. The base currency is never rounded.

Round to .50, .95, or .99 is not available for currencies without decimal places, such as the Japanese yen. Rounding never makes a paid item free: a small price rounds up to the smallest amount the rounding allows, such as 0.95. A free item stays free.
