About discounts

The four merchandise discount types, coupon vs automatic, status, tax, and priority.

A discount belongs to one market, so each region you sell to can have its own promotions in that market's currencies. There are four merchandise discount types: percentage, fixed amount, Buy X Get Y, and bundle. Free delivery belongs to the market's shipping methods, where its zone, currency, and threshold rules are resolved.

Coupon or automatic

A coupon discount needs a code the customer enters at checkout; codes are unique within a market, and letter case doesn't matter — SUMMER20 and summer20 are the same code. An automatic discount applies by itself whenever its conditions are met and has no code.

How status works

A discount's status follows its schedule on its own: before the start date it shows as scheduled, within the window it is active, and after the end date it becomes expired — you never have to switch it manually. Disabled is the one status you set yourself: a disabled discount stays off through schedule changes and edits until you enable it again, and enabling recomputes the real status from the dates.

Priority

Every discount in a market holds its own priority slot — two discounts can't share a number. When the market uses manual priority, the lower number wins a forced choice. Best for customer compares the savings instead.

How discounts affect tax

Discounts reduce merchandise before tax is calculated. A discount on selected products reduces only those lines; an order-level discount is allocated across its eligible merchandise lines. Every allocation is retained on the order, so refunds, tax, reports, GraphQL, CTX, Store API responses, and webhooks use the same line evidence. Shipping, duties, cash-on-delivery charges, and checkout fees are not part of the discount subtotal and follow their own pricing and tax rules.

With tax-exclusive prices, Tringify calculates tax on each reduced net line and adds it to the order. With tax-inclusive prices, the reduced line remains the customer's gross price and Tringify backs the included tax out of that reduced amount. In both modes, tax is based on the post-discount merchandise price.
