Each email your store sends, such as Order Placed or Shipment Sent, has one version: its subject, the preview text inboxes show after the subject, and its code. The code is the whole email, written like a web page in Vascula, the template language of themes. What the code prints is what customers get: nothing is added to it for you.
Open an email
Open Marketing > Transactional Emails (or Marketing > Promotional > Automated emails for cart recovery, checkout recovery and review requests).
Select Edit email on the email you want to change.
The code is on the left and the email, as customers get it, on the right. On a phone, switch between Code and Preview at the top.
Change the subject, preview text and code
The subject and preview text are above the code. Values such as the order number can be used in all three: select Value to pick one, or type it in double braces, such as {{ order.number }}. Insert adds a ready-made part, such as the order's items, the tracking details or a button, where the cursor is; see Email code reference for every part and value.
The default emails write out every case they handle, such as cash on delivery, pickup in store, import duties or a partial refund, as visible {% if %} … {% else %} … {% endif %} branches. Change the wording or the order of anything you like. Select Save when you're done.
Preview
The preview updates as you type, with sample data that follows your store: its currency, its home country and the taxes your tax setup charges there. Choose a sample (such as All details, Cash on delivery, Pickup in store or Many items, depending on the email), a language when your store has more than one, and desktop or mobile. Only the samples that change how this email looks are offered. Links in the preview don't open.
Logo and accent colour
Select Design to set the logo, its width and the accent colour. The accent colour is used for buttons, links and the order progress bar, and the logo is shown by the header part. Until you choose a logo, emails show your checkout logo. The design applies to every email of your store when you save it.
Problems
When something can't be sent, such as a value this email doesn't have or a missing {% endif %}, the problem is listed under the code with its line; select it to go there. Saving checks the email with every sample, so a problem that only some orders would hit shows up before a customer gets it. Warnings don't stop a save.
A promotional email (cart recovery, checkout recovery and review requests) must print its unsubscribe link, {{ email.unsubscribe_url }}, and the Newsletter Confirmation email must print its confirmation link, {{ newsletter.confirmation_url }}. Order and account emails don't need an unsubscribe link.
Send a test
Select Send test to send the email as it is in the editor, saved or not, to an address you choose. It uses sample data and [TEST] is added to the subject. A test counts toward your email allowance.
Put an email back to the default
Select Reset to default to replace the subject, preview text and code in the editor with Tringify's default for this email. Nothing changes for customers until you save.
Translations
When your store has more than one language, select Translations in the editor to translate this email's texts. See Translate emails.
In the mobile app
The app lists your emails and switches the ones you can turn off. Editing an email's code opens Store Admin in your browser.
