Express checkout buttons

Let shoppers pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay from the product and cart pages.

Express checkout buttons let shoppers buy without the checkout page. They tap a wallet button such as Apple Pay or Google Pay on a product page or the cart page, choose their address and delivery option in the wallet, confirm, and land on their order page.

What shoppers see

Page

What the buttons buy

Product page

The product with the variant and quantity the shopper picked. Their cart stays as it is.

Cart page

Everything in the cart.

Cart drawer

Everything in the cart.

The wallet shows the same prices as checkout: items, automatic discounts, delivery options for the address, taxes, duties and the total in the shopper's currency. The order is created only when the shopper confirms and pays. If anything changed in the meantime, for example the price or stock, nothing is charged and the shopper continues at checkout with their details already filled in.

A shopper only sees the buttons when their device has a wallet set up, for example Apple Pay on an iPhone or Google Pay in Chrome.

Which payment apps offer it

Express checkout comes from your payment provider. Only payment apps that offer express checkout can show the buttons, and only in markets where you turned that payment provider on (Markets > Payments). The Express checkout section in Preferences lists each payment provider that offers it, with its wallets, currencies and markets.

If a provider shows as not ready, it hasn't finished setting up express checkout. Open the payment app and finish its setup, for example by adding the publishable key it asks for. Until then the provider takes normal payments at checkout, but no express buttons.

Turn the buttons on or off
  1. Open Online Store > Preferences.

  2. Choose Express checkout.

  3. Turn Show express buttons on or off. It saves right away.

The switch is on by default. Turning it off hides the buttons on every page; shoppers then pay at checkout as usual. You can do the same in the Tringify app under Online Store > Preferences.

Add or move the buttons in your theme

The buttons appear where your theme has an Express checkout block, usually under Add to cart on the product page and under the checkout button on the cart page and in the cart drawer. To add, move or remove it, open your theme in the theme editor, select the product section, the cart section or the cart drawer, and add the Express checkout block or drag it where you want it. Removing the block hides the buttons in that place only.

In the theme editor, an Express checkout block that can't show buttons tells you why.
