PhonePe payments and refunds

Connect PhonePe and understand how payment results reach your orders.

Connect and choose markets

Open the PhonePe app from Apps in Store Admin or the mobile app. Both open the same Settings page. New payments require PhonePe Standard Checkout credentials: Client ID, Client Version and Client Secret. Choose Test or Live to match those credentials. Then enable PhonePe for the markets where you want to offer it. PhonePe currently accepts INR payments, with a minimum payment and refund of 1.00. Older Merchant ID and Salt credentials remain available for existing refunds, but cannot make the connection ready for new payments.

Payment results update automatically

Customers pay on PhonePe’s checkout page and return to checkout. Returning by itself does not mean a payment succeeded. Tringify asks PhonePe for the live result and updates the order. If PhonePe cannot answer, the payment waits for another check instead of being guessed as paid or failed.

Add the webhook URL, username and password shown in the app to PhonePe. Enable payment-completed, payment-failed, refund-completed and refund-failed notifications. Notifications request an immediate check. Tringify still checks when notifications are delayed or missing.

Expired or cancelled attempts

PhonePe attempts use the expiry supplied at checkout, within PhonePe’s supported range of five minutes to one hour. PhonePe cannot close a Standard Checkout order immediately when you cancel it in Tringify. If money was already captured or arrives later, Tringify checks the payment and decides how it applies to the order or is refunded. Do not ask the customer to pay again while the result is still being checked.

Refund from the order

Refund the order from Tringify as usual. The refund shows pending while PhonePe processes it, then refunded or failed when PhonePe confirms the result. Repeated processing of the same refund request uses the same refund reference. Refunds use the account that took the payment, including after you change credentials or disconnect it while the app remains installed. Make refunds through Tringify so the order reflects them.

Changing credentials

Generating a new webhook password does not immediately stop the old one. It continues until PhonePe sends a valid notification with the replacement, then for another 72 hours. Copy the new password when it is shown and update PhonePe’s webhook settings.

The app retains account credentials so existing payments and refunds can be checked. It supports up to 32 retained accounts and 256 saved previous webhook credentials per store. If the credential history is full, contact support before changing accounts or generating another password. Existing valid credentials are kept. These bounds do not depend on your plan or product count.

The old payment reconciliation list inside the PhonePe app is removed. Check payment and refund progress on the order in Tringify. Uninstall removes the app’s platform authorization; its later data-erasure event removes the installation’s saved account secrets. Changing a newer installation is protected from delayed events for an older one.
